What exactly is the direction of this team?

Honest question. One of he highest payrolls in the league, one of the worst defenses in football. Less than impressive offensive line. Aging super stars.

I think we'll probably have an answer here pretty quick about what the vision is. I realize free agency hasn't even begun, but I don't see us signing a huge impact player.

To me, I want to see one of two things from my team, either make a push to win now, or rebuild for the future.

I don't see either scenario with this team. It's very frustrating to watch. I see a team with several winning pieces, but no sense of urgency to get those one or two players that could really propel you to a championship.

Whats the goal for this franchise? Is it to just maintain competitiveness over a sustained period and be profitable? Or is it to win big?

Its not clear. IMO, it hasn't been in a long time. The willingness to continue to go with the known product, no matter how bad they are, has to be the most disappointing aspect to this team.

Anyone see something that I don't?

I think if we could fix the line, we'd be serious contenders.

Give Romo a solid 3-5 seconds consistantly, and he'd eat up defenses.

Even with our own defensive woes - which I expect a natural improvement going into Ryans second year. Even if I've overrated Ryans abilities as a DC, there would be improvement once core guys gained familiarity with schemes and coverages.

This.

In today's NFL, you don't have to have a 3-4 year rebuilding process to make a contender. It can happen in one season.

We have the offensive skill positions to compete with anyone. If we give Romo time and get some help for the secondary, I'm right back to feeling pretty good about this team.

I will never understand how you can call yourself a fan of a team, yet mock the team moreso than the most die-hard Redskins fan.

Every NFL QB with 3-5 seconds in the pocket will be successful. That’s just not how it works. Every QB is going to be under pressure. You need wide receivers that understand their hot routes and be able to read zone/man coverages and adjust accordingly. Not sure we have those type of receivers. The better option is to have an offensive line that can run the ball consistently.

I guess a team is only a few players away if the other players progress and improve too. I will stay a grumpy old man and believe this team is running in quick sand. Too many issues. Too many that start at the top.

Direction?

Well, Jerry now has the most valuable franchise in the NFL. He has his new uber-palace with great artwork that is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world and always gets the TV announcers gushing. (He kindly built that for us Cowboys fans, even if we only get to see it on TV (wink, point)). After a decade of planning, he has his young coach in place who is polished enough to look good for the fans and media but who doesn't have the clout to step on Jerry behind the scenes.

Oh, did you mean on the field?

We're average as can be there, but just good enough to sell hope and get high TV ratings.

So really, things couldn't be better.
