The Garrett family has gathered in New Jersey this weekend.
They returned for the Jason Garrett Starfish Charities 14th annual football camp and leadership forum on Saturday at Princeton. They celebrated Jane Garrett’s 80th birthday with a Sunday party across the street from the family’s oceanside home. And, of course, they honored Jim Garrett on Father’s Day.
Jim suffered a stroke several years ago and rarely leaves the house but was scheduled to celebrate with his family.
Jane and Jim Garrett had eight children, including two who work for the Cowboys – Jason and Judd – and another who formerly worked at Valley Ranch – John. Jim spent 17 years as a scout in the Cowboys organization.
Jason Garrett became emotional when asked about his father last week.
“That’s a hard question for me to answer right now,” the Cowboys coach said before a long pause. “It’s very meaningful. It’s very meaningful to all of us. Football has been a big part of our lives, and certainly part of my life growing up and my brothers’ lives growing up. And my dad, probably more than anything else, instilled a passion for football in all of us and all the people that he came in contact with. So, it’s a special day.”
