But I'm not anymore though. Right? RIGHT??

http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/dallas-cowboys/roster/2001

I remember having such high hopes for some of those guys.

I really thought the following guys were going to be quality NFL'ers...

Pat Dennis (thought we stole him from the Chiefs)
Kareem Larrimore (man, he had a great interception in the pre-season. In Jerry's voice "That's Deion stuff right thar"
Orantes Grant (Went to Georgia. Saw him play against Tennessee one year and he impressed me :awkward)
Jon Nix (We'll always have that improbable Stephen Davis fumble to win that MNF betwee 0-4 Was vs 0-5 Dal)
Ken-Yon Rambo (Saw where he was a 5* recruit going to college. Thought that meant he'd develop into a stud NFL'er lol)
Markus Steele (Great name for a LB. :awkward)
Reggie Swinton (Good return guy)
Keith Adams (Was a stud LB at Clemson. Just so small. Hoped he'd overcome that.)

Wow that team was bad.

Larrimore had a ton of talent. I think he was also the MVP of the Blue-Gray game when he played in it. He had issues though (I think drugs) and its also why he slipped to the 4th rd.

Larrimore could play, but yeah, he was a knucklehead.

We took 3 corners in that draft, and the best one was the last one, taken in the 6th round. Mario Edwards.

Funny thing is (not for Edwards) was that if he had come out the year before, he likely would've been a first rounder. He had a bad senior year, and fell to the 6th round.

Proud to say I knew that team sucked. Never had any doubts we would suck either and that was when the NFC east was poor.

I did have hope for the 02 season till I watched hard knocks and realized campo and Jerry were bigger tools than I had ever even dreamed of.......

Thought we were going to suck in 03 also.

I used to be a blind homer.

But I really had high hopes for 2002 as well. We signed Glover, Hardy, and Westbrook that off season. I thought we were going to have a very good defense.

I couldn't believe we lost to Houston in their first game. In a temper-tantrum like moment, I threw the remote at the television, stormed upstairs to go to bed, and just kept saying "Fuck Dallas." My girlfriend at the time tried to console with me a head shot, and I told her I just wanted to be left alone.

You know you take your football too serious when you turn down BJ's so you can pout over a loss.

Lol.

If u watched hard knocks you could see that season coming a mile away. No one had a clue what was going on.

Looked for a. Minute like we had a good draft and glover was a stud, but the organization was a mess.

I actually thought Campo might be a decent choice back when Jerry picked him, just based on his defensive success. But we didn't have the access we do now (or even close) and I had no idea he was such a weasely little suck-up...

One thing I remember from that Hard Knocks was Campo being so freakin proud of himself when Danzler or one of the rookies fell down and started to walk away like the play was over, and Camps got to scream at him that these were the pros!! Were you touched? No? Then go lay down and then get up and run, son!! I could swear he turned around with this shit eating "I'm such a badass" grin after that like he was such a badass. :sbk92

Also, Avezzano loving the camera so much and being such a drama queen with his R Lee Ermey like rants... Only he wasn't cool like the gunny. Looking back on it, the only guy with a clue on that staff was Zimmer.

And that Houston game... Remember how Bryant Westbrook was going to save us at corner and then he gave up about 170 yards in penalties to Houston and was immediately cut? Those were the days...

His chad hutchinson story was all I needed to see. That was such a sad state of affairs.

Then it was topped off with the sea world trip...

I went to the vet for the cowboys eagles game which was the final home opener at the vet ever.......it was embarrassing to be completely honest. I had great seats and just couldn't believe how bad we were or why we didn't move some veterans to try and get better.

Reggie swinton returned the opening kick for a Td and then I really don't k ow if we got a first down again....

A year later when we beat the eagles at texas stadium I was just sitting there in complete shock...o couldn't believe we beat that same team just a year later...

Jesus, I think back on those days and I just cannot believe how bad they were.

From top to bottom.

We're bad these days too, but at least there's a handful of real football players and some decent coaches (though the jury's still out on that one) on the team so at least there's a little hope.

heh, I had a hard on for Orantes Grant too: "I can't believe he fell all the way to the 7th round!!".

And yep, those were the days, reading the scouting reports on our players and being transfixed only by the positives, while completely ignoring the glaring negatives. Then arguing based off of that mindset.

When they cut Tony Banks in the Middle of Camp I knew the organization was clueless.

It was the height of Jerry mania and he was cutting corners all over the place trying to not rebuild, if we went with Banks that year we would at least have had a competitive team but giving Carter the reigns doomed us to failure.

Do you remember ANYTHING about Tony Banks? We were fucked no matter what. It's a shame that Jerry still cuts corners to this day.

Just proof that all the money in the world does not negate utter incompetence.

Hats off to all of you for not jumping on the obligatory "Used to be? lol" response.

I'm impressed.

Tony Banks was a huge upgrade over Quincy, he went on to have success after Dallas cut him.

I did not say we would have been a great team I said we would have been competitive and not the disaster we were.

We had enough talent to be a playoff team with a competent QB.

In my defense, I thought "dumb" was too mild of an adjective.

"Retarded", "douchey", "total dipshit", or "as useless a contributor to society as I am to this message board" are more specific and accurate.

lol WTF are u talking about, brah?

He went to Washington, sucked ass on way to like a .500 record, and then rode the bench somewhere for a few years and retired.

Your franchise is essentially fucked if you're depending on Tony Banks for help to get to the playoffs. There's a strong reason that only Dallas and Washington started him before the end of his career. Al Davis was probably dying to get his on hand all over Banks at the same time.

EDIT: Just looked it up. He won a grand total of 5 games in Washington. Dallas's record that year, you ask? 5-11. So yeah...Banks totally would have gotten us into the playoffs...

What exactly are you arguing about?

I only said it was a monumentally stupid decision to cut Banks and go with Carter and if Carter got that team to 5 wins it stands to reason Banks could have done much better, we had a pretty good defense that year.

Why are you acting like I said Banks was the answer or something. can nobody have a actual discussion without there words being twisted to prove god knows what point?
