On this show David Moore does Wednesday nights... They had him on to talk about Parcells' book... And wow. He gave the most rambling, slurred, and surely drunken interview I think I've ever heard. In a way, I almost felt sorry for him, but it just shows the kind of guy Jerry was counting on for advice for years.

I recorded it and could post it on Soundcloud or somewhere if anyone cares enough to want to hear it. But I'm sure it'll be the subject of about 15 articles tomorrow anyway.

I was up at our office and I got busy doing other stuff... Besides, I needed to edit it way down -- the show's an hour long and I recorded the whole thing, but the interview was only about the last 25 minutes. (Larry plowed right through all their breaks with his rambling.) Is there a good freeware MP3 editor out there? I'm sure there is. Only one I've used is Audacity but it's .wav only, I think.

I bet the Unticket will have it archived anyway.

Like I say, as big a fool as he sounded like -- couldn't remember anyone's name, even people like Ware and LaRoi Glover and Coakley -- he isn't that big an idiot. He was actually a good coach at one time. Like he said, Jimmy tells people he taught him more about defense than any other coach. But I think a combination of old age and probably alcohol have just rotted his brain.

He did say he told Jerry to give Bill everything he wanted. But he also said Bill's whole personality was based on intimidation and he refused to be intimidated by him.

I can convert any audio file to mp3. If you want, go ahead and cut it with Audacity and i can take care of the compression.

Can you convert the Cabal into a forum of quality posters?

True, but so did Gil Brandt though his last 8-10 years or so

I can't tell if you are intentionally being contrarian or really believe some of your prods. It sounds like in some way you are defending Lacewell by saying "Well, Gil did it too". Comparing the two is apples and oranges. In terms of the abundance of critical information about a prospect, Lacewell was working with information at the speed of light while Brandt was phone calls and papers. Between the two of them, Brandt would get more of a pass for missing on the probability of a prospect succeeding because Lacewell had exponentially more access to information about prospect just because of technological advancement and plethora of statistical analysis.

And of course Lacewell had the football instincts and visage of Honey Boo Boo.

Lacewell was bad.

But apparently you don't know or don't remember how epic bad some of those Gil Brandt Dallas drafts were from 1978 till he was done here.

I suggest you go back and look at some history

Lacewell wanted to trade their entire draft to get Peyton Manning and was apparently laughed out of the room.

Would you feel any different about him if they had listened and ended up with Payton?

He doesn't say anything about being laughed out of the room, just says they didn't do it.

His point is very valid though, in those days there weren't really any picks on the board who were a lock to make those teams, so you could indeed afford to trade your whole draft to get that one future QB.

Later in the convo, he said he said the same thing about Eli - trade the whole draft for him. And still says Eli is "excellent." So, there's that.

Prob bc they're SEC guys. Lacewell was a big Tennessee guy. He was a big Goodrich fan among many others. (SEC is the best conference, but still.)

And imagine if we hadn't lucked into Romo. We might be on our sixth iteration of QCar and wishing he had traded that whole draft for Eli.
