It's Cowboys-Redskins on Sunday and history has been kind to the Cowboys when they open up the season with an NFC East opponent.

Since 1970, they are 14-3 when opening against Washington, Philadelphia , the New York Giants and St. Louis/Arizona . Since Jerry Jones took over in 1989, the Cowboys are 5-2.

In 2007, the core of this team was part of a 45-35 win against the New York Giants in Wade Phillips' first game as coach. The 2000 opener vs. Philadelphia was pretty memorable, too. It was the "pickle juice" game.

The last time the Cowboys opened the season at Washington, Rocket Ismail won the game with a 76-yard touchdown catch from Troy Aikman. The Cowboys are 6-1 in season openers against the Redskins.
