Yeah right. This defense gave up a ton of yards week 1 and we were only missing Ratliff and Spencer.

This whole defense is a disaster no matter who plays.

Good thing Lee's out. He was the glue that held this turd of a defense together.

It's about to get really bad.

Our planned starting defense for 2013:

Ware = A+ player when healthy
Ratliff = undersized, injured, malcontent B- maybe/ F for holding onto him and releasing him midseason
Hatcher = A try hard guy, hustles
Spencer = contract nightmare B- / F for Franchising him

Lee = A+ player when healthy
Carter = B+ talent is there, not yet mentally
Durant = C JAG but plays hard

Claiborne = C on the field/F if you consider what we gave up for him
Carr = A on the field most days/C- if you consider his contract
Church = C+ limited athletically
Allen = F JAG from the get go

The plan was flawed.

On the bright side... Jeff Heath will have a year of experience under his belt.

That's actually not a bad list of players

That defense can't stop high powered offenses and it isn't physical enough to stop smashmouth teams. We'd have to win high-scoring pinball games each week with that D.

Yeah, we just don't have the talent. Healthy or not. Kiffin imo though needs to retire. Can he even count to 2?

Cowboys release DE Caesar Rayford, sign DT Corvey Irvin

The Cowboys likely soon will play their 17th defensive lineman of the season after signing defensive tackle Corvey Irvin to the active roster.

Dallas released defensive end Caesar Rayford to make room for Irvin. Rayford, who was acquired in a trade from the Colts on Sept. 3, had six tackles and one pressure in seven games.

Irvin, a third-round pick of the Panthers in 2009 out of Georgia, has played in 18 games with three teams, including 12 with the Bucs this season. He has 11 career tackles, including six this season.

The Cowboys also made moves on their practice squad. They released guard Phillipkeith Manley and defensive tackle Jason Vega. They signed offensive tackle John Wetzel to the practice squad. Wetzel, who was an undrafted rookie signed by the Raiders after the 2013 draft, has been out of football since he was released by Oakland on Aug. 24.

Irvin and Wetzel were among 16 players the Cowboys worked out Tuesday. Veteran safety Michael Huff also worked out.

The Cowboys have one open roster spot on the practice squad.
