Heard most of his segment on NFL Radio today, it was pretty good.

He really likes Blake Bortles and Aaron Murray, also thinks McCarron will turn out ok. Cited all three playing in pro style offenses that depend on NFL reads and use NFL style route trees.

Also believes Mettenberger and Bortles are ideal for a Norv Turner style offense that features a lot vertical routes and tight area in cut/slant routes because of their arm strength.

Nothing on Manziel? I know he has a hard on for him too.

He didn't have anything negative to say on him, likes him but thinks he has to go to the right style of offense and might take some time to fully develop, but said he likes the way he throws the ball.

I missed when they were discussing Carr but sounded like he had some positive stuff on him too.

btw, Gruden went through something like 9 QBs while he was HC in Tampa. I wouldn't take what he has to say on them with a grain of salt.

So basically dbair heard what he wanted to hear.

I wanted to hear more about the kid from Pitt and the Cornell kid, but didn't hear him say anything about either.

he also spoke pretty well about Romo jr

I think Carr is interesting. He is kindof goofy. Reminds me of a Matthew Stafford. He does have a little bit of gunslinger in him.

Has anyone seen the Frank Caliendo Gruden QB camp with Derek Carr and the actual Gruden?

I usually avoid ESPN like the plague but thought it was funny.

NFL Radio had Phil Simms on today basically doing the same QB discussion Gruden did yesterday. He loves Manziel , Carr & Mettenberger, but he doesn't like some of the others much at all. Thinks Bortles should be draft late first or early second (which Kirwin surprisingly agreed with) and said he'd take the Savaga kid before many of the other top guys, including Bortles.

Simms didn't seem high on Aaron Murray and while Gruden hated Logan Thomas (said he should change positions) Simms actually likes him.

First off, Simms sucks.

Savage has great tools and measurables but the whole Rutgers to Arizona to Pittsburgh thing scares me along with his Dad arguing with college Head Coaches.

I think people are finding reasons to not like Bortles. I still think he'll be the best of this bunch.

I do too. He's the one QB I would take in the first round with our pick if he some how fell in our lap.

Pretty much. He just kept throwing shit at a wall and none of it stuck.

Did he ever really pass on a good one, though? Meaning, did he have a chance to draft a really good prospect but didn't because he thought they couldn't play? He was there long enough that maybe he did, but I can't really remember. But I bet if he were being honest he never really thought Brad Johnson or Simms or Gradkowski or any of those guys were very good.
