Do you really think Jerry and Stephen are serious about extending Romo?

Rick Gosselin: The Cowboys have always had a fear of the unknown. I believe that's why they extended Sensabaugh and Scandrick -- they knew what they had with those two players. Not having them would mean finding replacements and the Cowboys labor with their personnel decisions. They know what they have with Romo.

Without Romo, they would have to find another quarterback. After years of churning through Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson , Ryan Leaf , Clint Stoerner and Drew Henson, the Cowboys aren't in a hurry to venture into the abyss of the unknown. I think Romo has 2-3 elite seasons left. Look for the Cowboys to hold onto him as long as they possibly can before starting the search for their next quarterback. So extending his contract would not surprise me one bit. That's how the Cowboys have always done business. They tend to hold onto their players a year or two too long.

I'm worried. Two or three years left isn't shit.

We need to start looking for Romo's replacement no later than next year's draft.

That's only if you believe he only has 2-3 years left. When he's been healthy, there hasn't been any sign of him slowing down.

lol @ the notion that he only has 2-3 years left. Not sure where this rumor began but it's been escalating for awhile now. Romo rode the bench for his first few seasons and then missed practically a half season with that collar bone injury that has no long-term health detriments. He's not some broken down starter entering his mid-30s.

It's like McNabb's career trajectory is the blueprint for QBs these days. Romo has 7 solid years left in my estimate. He's a freak of an athlete that takes care of his body. He's our Jeremy Lin.

I say that with the issues of the interior line still a problem. No doubt with an improved interior line he'll play longer.

He's always running for his life when he should be sitting in the pocket picking apart defenses. A lot of fans think that's just part of Tony's game, but in reality he has no choice but to scramble.

It's complete bullshit. He's going to still be playing for someone in 5 years. He loves the game and his legs haven't showed any sign of getting tired.

The big plus is, if we ever get 5 competent guys on the line, he's accurate as any QB, he won't need his legs as much as he does now.

You have to push guys like Romo out the door. He'll compete until someone tells him he's done.

I think he's got 4-5 years left. Possibly 6.

But we need to get him a line in order to make that a reality.

His greatest assett is his ability to extend the play with his legs. He's avoided hundreds of hits because of that ability.

Should his legs start to go, and we still are shuffling in retreads and rejects on the interior, he's going to have a crash and burn end to his career.
