Gil Brandt says Cowher to Dallas Rumor worth watching

Got a Tweet from BMac over at Sirius NFL Radio concerning some breaking news about the Cowboys to begin 'Late Hits' tonight.

So I tune in and it's not really breaking news, but it is very interesting commentary from Gil Brandt talking about the rumor of Bill Cowher going to the Cowboys on Monday should they lose to the Texans.

Before we get to the audio let's clarify this. Gil was a long time member of the Cowboys organization. The man is a legend for long time Cowboys fans and I would think he still has some close ties to the team. The guy pretty much has a great relationship with Jerry and his family.

So you can take this audio for what it's worth. What I get out of it is that maybe Jerry is a little more pissed off than he's letting on about the job Wade and his staff are doing to open up this season.

Here's Gil and BMac from earlier tonight...http://app.quickblogcast.com/files/1/3/2/0/2/128698-120231/gilbrandt_sep24.mp3

Either way, Cowher will coach this team next year.

I've said this before and I feel Jerry will go for a coach like him with the 3-4 experience.

We have struggled enough and Cowher is ready to get back into coaching, his daughters are off to college, and his wife Kay passed.

He's ready to coach again, and I'm sure he doesn't want to go to a team where he needs to install his 3-4 system and start from scratch in the draft. We have most of the skill players for him, and he also a coach who liked to run the football, remember Bettis?

How exactly do you know he's ready to coach again? You personally talked with him?

First, I didnt listen to the audio but my opinion of Gil Brandt the past 10-15 years is he is pretty close to senile.

As for Cowher, I could see Jones making a big play for him, but not duing this season. As far as his coaching goes, I think he's massively overrated and whoever hires him will probably be getting a guy who's solely coaching for the money at this stage (kinda like Parcells with us). Cowher won one championship, a game his team won solely because of the officiating. He's also the bonehead who insisted Kordell Stewart was a legit NFL QB, even after numerous people in the organization kept telling him otherwise. He also got Tom Donohoe fired.

Have just never been impressed. He coached a team that had alot of talent over the years and was fortunate to have several bigtime defensive coordinators. He has numerous home playoff losses and is niether an offensive or defensive expert. (People forget, he is NOT the reason Pittsburgh had that dominant defense, Cowher is a special teams coach)

If he's anything like Bill Parcells for us, sign me up right now.

He's the only reason this team isn't complete dog shat.

Oh he'll be like Parcells, a past his prime guy coming back for the money.

Cowher is massively overrated as a HC.

I agree somewhat that Cowher isn't as good as people believe he is.

But if he does here what Parcells did, you'd have to be an assclown not to want him here.

I hope he comes with some really good assistants that will take over when he is gone.

Marty Ball in Dallas. That's my vote if Garrett is not being considered.

Not bad.

To me, anybody we get is going to be inferior to what we had with Parcells. And Jimmy.

I'd probably prefer getting a young assistant rather than a retread but that won't work here with the lunatic owner. We need somebody with enough of a resume to cause that piece of shat to step back and let his coach lead the team.

Marty has his warts, but he's a proven coach who should command attention in the locker room. So I'd be okay with it.

I wouldn't be bouncing off the walls excited, but okay.

At least Cowher would hold his players accountable and not pass out donuts.

Schottenheimer? Huh?

Yeah, lets replace one guy who has a history of struggling to win postseason games with a guy who is an all timer in that category.

Lets find the next Jimmy, not the next burn out who will never get a team to the next level.

Well, see. I can't blame Wade for that. Even though he would be a pushover here regardless of who the GM was, as he's proven at every other stop in his head coaching career, in Dallas he doesn't even have the chance to exercise any authority. That's why he was hired. He was an easy mark for the controlling owner. If Wade had any thought of doing things his way he wouldn't have gotten this job.

Cowher doesn't go anywhere without making it perfectly clear he, and only he, will control that locker room.

So if that hire is made you'll know Jerry is stepping back again. Like he did with Parcells. The only time this team has ever improved during his 16 years of holding this team hostage.

Can't argue that. That's the warts I was talking about with Marty. He just seems like more of a disciplinarian than Wade. But you could be absolutely correct and we'd have another loser in the postseason.

I'd love to get the next quality coach rather than a retread. I just don't know how a young guy with no prior head coaching experience will be seen as anything but a puppet for Jerry. I think he'd have a hard time gaining the respect and attention of this team as opposed to somebody like Cowher who demands that respect by his mere presence.

With a loss on Sunday, I'll be ready to shift my focus to the head coaching search and the draft.
