Cowboys interim head coach Jason Garrett spoke to the media Monday at the team's practice facility. One of the hot topics centered around Garrett's thoughts on Cowboys running back Tashard Choice getting an autograph from Philadelphia quaerterback Michael Vick seconds after the Cowboys lost to the Eagles, 30-27, on Sunday night.
Here is how the dialogue went down between the media and Garrett.
On his reaction to Choice getting Vick's autograph on the field after the game:
Garrett: "Well, I don't know much about that other than to say, after games a lot of guys have gotten a chance to know each other through the years, whether they played against each other or with each other in college or gotten to know each other in the offseason, whatever the case may be. Michael Vick is certainly one of the marquee players in this league. I'll speak more to Tashard Choice. I know how he prepares and how he feels about playing football, the passion with which he plays. Anything beyond that, I really don't want to comment on. He goes about it the right way. We're glad we have him on our side and we're glad that he takes the approach that he does."
On him having a problem with Choice getting Vick's signature on his glove:
Garrett: "No. ... That's that only information that I have."
On if he was able to be friends with players immediately after a game when he played in the NFL:
Garrett: "I don't know that I can characterize it like that. I know how hard guys compete in this league and how they battle against each other. I also know about the healthy respect that guys have for each other. And it goes on week in and week out all across this league. It's about competition. It's about respect. And guys going about it the right way. When you're battling each other, you're across from somebody, you're going after them for three hours, in a funny kind of way there's a bond that develops. And I think that happens, like I said, week in and week out in this league. And I think it certainly happened last night. I know the rivalry that the Cowboys and the Eagles have. I think there's a healthy respect there too."
On if it is a reflection on the Cowboys as a team that one of their players would ask an opponent for an autograph:
Garrett: "Again, I don't want to get too much in to this conversation. I really didn't know that much about it. I do know about Tashard Choice and the approach that he takes and how he practices and how he plays in the game. I certainly defend him. I haven't spoken to him about it."
On if he will talk to Choice about it:
Garrett: "At some point I probably will talk to him about it."
On if he preferred if that type of interaction would take place behind the scenes:
Garrett: "Again, I'll go back to Tashard Choice and the approach that he takes, preparing to play football and I will talk to him about it."
