Last week, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan didn’t sound too excited about the possibility of moving Jay Ratliff from nose tackle to defensive end.
On Thursday from the combine in Indianapolis, head coach Jason Garrett tried to sidestep the question, but did say he was pretty happy with his play in the middle.
“We haven’t gotten into those discussions yet. He’s an awfully good football player. He’s going to play somewhere. He’s an awfully good nose tackle.”
Ratliff has made three straight Pro Bowls at nose tackle in the 3-4 scheme. There has been some talks – although nothing official from the team – about the possibility of moving him to end to possibly make him more productive.
Then again, to do that would mean the Cowboys need a replacement in the middle. While Josh Brent had a solid rookie season, it doesn’t appear the Cowboys are ready to move Ratliff from the middle.
