Garrett links Felix Jones' resurgence to better confidence in other parts of his game

The re-establishing of Felix Jones as a running threat has been one of the highlights of training camp for the Cowboys.

Head coach Jason Garrett traced it back to confidence – not so much in his running, but in other parts of his game.

“He’s a confident guy. I think you see that as a runner,” Garrett said. “But where it’s most impressive to me is when he’s running routes and as a pass protector. He’s really gotten a much greater understanding of what the identifications are and who he has to block and stepping up and blocking those guys with confidence.”

Jones has rushed for 99 yards in three preseason games and caught four passes for 34 yards. Garrett said experience is a factor in Jones’ improvement in the passing game.

“The offense that he played in in college didn’t afford him those opportunities,” Garrett said. “So he’s been a guy that studied very hard and worked very hard on those other aspects of his game, and I think it’s starting to show up.”
