Garrett: 'It's a loser's mentality to say we want to lose games so we get a better draft pick'

At the NFL Draft in April, the Cowboys will have the ninth selection - their highest pick since 2003. But they could have been even closer to the top of the pecking order had Philadelphia prevailed on Sunday.
Interim coach Jason Garrett is aware of that, but he wouldn't change the outcome of the Cowboys' season finale even if a loss would have improved their draft position.
"I just think it's a loser's mentality to say we want to lose games so we get a better draft pick," Garrett said. "I think the league is littered with players who were drafted at Pick 199 and they go on to be Hall of Fame players. To say that the ninth pick is any worse than the sixth pick or the 13th pick or whatever it is, you want to win ballgames and the draft order will shake itself out."
Garrett said that his top priority is to achieve success with the team he has in place.
"It's important to be your best every opportunity you can," Garrett said. "Everyone knows there are a lot of different circumstances that go into end-of-the-season games. We played a lot of different combinations of players as did everybody around the league. Having said that, you want to win games. You try to put your players in competitive situations to win all the time. Winning is a habit."
