In this time of uncertainty, it’s tough to get anyone around Valley Ranch to speculate what might occur in terms of free agency.
In getting the chance to chat with Jason Garrett a few times this week, the head coach at least revealed one plan, although it’s not one too surprising. Garrett said the Cowboys will likely sign another quarterback to the roster, if and when free agency begins.
“We anticipate having four quarterbacks going to training camp,” Garrett said this week. “The logical place for us to get one is an undrafted college guy.”
Garrett said the undrafted college free agents are probably feeling the most effects of the lockout, more than any other group.
“I feel for those guys,” Garrett said. “I’m hopeful the whole thing gets resolved and that we can do it in a real systematic way and they get that same opportunity. And I’m sure we will. As you know, guys on our football team who came that route of a college free agents – Miles Austin, Tony Romo and others – those guys are football players, too and they can have great careers. But I do think we’ll probably get a college free agent quarterback out of that pool.”
Among the quarterbacks not taken in the seven-round draft include Delaware’s Pat Devlin, Wisconsin’s Scott Tolzien, Ryan Colburn of Fresno State and Jeff Van Camp of Florida Atlantic.
