IRVING, Texas -- Bruce Carter and DeMarco Murray will not have the same benefit of receiving a playbook when they arrive at Valley Ranch on Saturday for their press conferences.

On Friday the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the NFL a temporary stay on an injunction that lifted the lockout, thus denying teams from giving their rookies a head start.

First round pick Tyron Smith and offensive line coach/running game coordinator Hudson Houck spent more than three hours together going over the basics of the Cowboys offense. As Jerry Jones concluded a press conference Friday, Smith was in Houck’s office looking at practice film.

With the lockout back in place Carter and Murray are allowed only to take part in a press conference. Veteran players will not be allowed to work out at the facility over the weekend. A final ruling on the injunction could come as early as Monday.

Roughly 20 players showed up at Valley Ranch on Friday for workouts and to meet with their position coaches. They were able to receive playbooks, which should help the defensive players in learning the scheme of new coordinator Rob Ryan

“It was nothing formal in any way but just a chance to connect and get back into it a little bit,” coach Jason Garrett said.

If the lockout is once again lifted the Cowboys could have a mini-camp as soon as next week, however, the more likely scenario would be the second week in May.

“We laid out the calendar for the entire offseason assuming there was no lockout, so all those dates are in place,” Garrett said, “but obviously we had to be responsive to the lockout and when the players came back, and we’ll continue to do that based on what the new rules are.”
