(Editor's Note: With NFL free agency still to come, the Cowboys' roster remains very much unfinished. In this summer series, DallasCowboys.com takes a look at a number of veterans who could wind up in Dallas before the season begins. Today's featured player is Packers guard Daryn Colledge.)
Name: Daryn Colledge
Position: Guard
College: Boise State
Height/Weight: 6-4/308
Age: 29
NFL Experience: 5 seasons
Availability: Though a starter since his rookie season, when he was a second-round pick for Green Bay, Colledge is now viewed as a weak link on the Packers' offensive line, and the team has ample depth behind him, including 2009 fourth-rounder T.J. Lang. He was offered a restricted free agency tender by the Packers, but may still be eligible for unrestricted free agency when a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is signed.
What He Brings: Though maybe not the bright spot in Green Bay, Colledge could improve many offensive lines around the league. Until 2010 he was used as a swing lineman of sorts, playing guard and tackle on both sides of the line at times, though left guard was always his primary position. He was able to stay at left guard throughout 2010, and his play improved in the Packers' run to Super Bowl XLV. He also offers great durability, having never missed a game.
Connections: In Green Bay, Colledge played under a staff that included new Cowboys assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Jimmy Robinson, who tutored the Packers wide receivers.
Where Would He Fit: Colledge could be in the Cowboys' consideration at a couple of positions. Their left guard, Kyle Kosier, is an unrestricted free agent, and while he played well last season, he is 31 and has had some injury issues in the last few years. Right guard Leonard Davis, the highest paid member of the line, may not be retained if the team needs to cut costs to get under a salary cap or clear room for other free agent additions. Though not considered the best guard on the market, Colledge could be coming into a modest contract.
