Fraley: Tony Romo should call his own plays but it won't ever happen

Dallas Morning News writer Gerry Fraley chatted with fans and answered questions about Sunday’s game on Monday, including issues with the offensive line and the offense. Here are some highlights:

Looking back at the Super Bowl years, the offence was balanced with the best RB, TE, receivers and QB. I think we have that but it seems the calls lean more to the passing game. Why is that?

The nature of the game. Ever since the officials were told to put more emphasis on contact by defensive backs, it's become a pass-happy league. I believe that happened in 2003. It was in response to the way New England's DBs mugged Indianapolis' WRs in the playoffs.

The Jets let QB Mark Sanchez call plays in a preseason game. Should Romo get that chance?

I think every QB should call his plays, but that's not going to happen. Having the OC call plays has turned QBs into robots. I'm old, so I like the old days of dashing quarterbacks taking control of games.

How do you think Roy Williams performed? He made a very tough catch and almost won the game for the team.

I feel for the guy. He loses what would have been a game-wining TD catch because of penalty. He goes up to get an off-line throw and takes a big hit. Roy did clank a throw in the fourth quarter. He once again last night showed a tendency to wait on the ball rather than going after it.

What is the reality with Alex Barron? How much longer are we on the hook with him?

He's signed only for this season. Guy has 74 NFL starts, and St. Louis ran well with him at RT. He could not stay with Orakpo.
