SportsDay writer Gerry Fraley chatted with fans on Monday and answered questions about the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights:
In your opinion, would Jason Garrett think about a drafting a QB in the first or second round?
Maybe second but not first. A second-round pick on a QB might even be a reach. If the Cowboys do take a QB, I would not be surprised to see them add Dalton or McElroy. Both fit what Garrett likes in a QB: smart and poised.
Are players happy the draft is still going on? Will the new draft picks get signing bonuses or not until there is an agreement?
Teams cannot sign draft picks during a lockout. Teams also cannot sign undrafted players. That could hurt a team such as the Cowboys. They have done good work in the undrafted free agent market. NFL players would like to see some sort of boycott of the draft. Perhaps the top players, who are paraded on the stage when selected, will stay away this year.
Does this lockout mean Jerry Jones can't cut Marion Barber or can he cut him anyway?
That's one of the questions that teams want to have answered. The NFL is formulating a policy. At this point, the guess is nothing can be done until the lockout ends. Teams are fearful of doing anything that can be tied into the anti-trust legislation.
