Ravens deal Boldin to 49ers
FOX Sports
UPDATED MAR 11, 2013 4:58 PM ET

The San Francisco 49ers saw first-hand the damage that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin could cause during Super Bowl XLVII.

Boldin will now be wearing a 49ers jersey in 2013.

The Baltimore Sun first reported that the Ravens agreed to trade Boldin to San Francisco for a 2013 sixth-round pick. Boldin must first pass a physical for the deal to get completed.

As first reported Saturday by FOXSports.com, the Ravens asked Boldin to take a pay cut from his $6 million salary for 2013 or he would get released.

Boldin caught six passes for 104 yards and one touchdown in Baltimore’s 34-31 Super Bowl win over San Francisco. He was one of quarterback Joe Flacco’s favorite targets during the postseason, especially in third-down situations.

Boldin, though, is 32 years old and the Ravens were interested in clearing more salary cap space even after signing quarterback Joe Flacco to a contract extension rather than having to designate him their franchise player. Baltimore wants to re-sign some of its own pending free agents with linebacker Dannell Ellerbe believed to top the list as the market opens at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The 49ers had an opening at wide receiver with the team not expected to re-sign veteran Randy Moss. Boldin also is physically strong enough to serve as a pseudo-tight end if Delanie Walker leaves via free agency.

San Francisco had 15 draft picks, which gave the club further flexibility to swing the deal. 1500 ESPN Twin Cities reported that Minnesota had offered a seventh-round choice for Boldin.

Boldin was acquired by Baltimore in a 2010 trade with Arizona after spending his first seven seasons with the Cardinals. He tallied 65 catches for 921 yards and four touchdowns during the 2012 regular season.

San Fran was able to do this because they can aford him.

They built there team from the draft. The built the trenches and now they are adding the complimentary.

Its good as any of an idea on how to build a team

will be 33 later this year

and will be much more valuable to the 49ers Superbowl hopes than whoever they would have drafted in the 6th round.

Meanwhile, you'll be telling us how our prize UDFA is going to start for us down the road.

Ronald Leary you bastards! Ronald Leary!

Wasnt that Boldin dropping that gimmee TD vs New England 2011 in AFC Title game

you mean Lee Evans?

I know Bolden had huge TD receptions this year in the AFC Championship and then in some game against San Francisco. Would gladly give up a 6th for him.

No, it was Boldin on a short play inside the 10 yd line

You're right, they should have cut him immediately.

Holding onto him for another year was clearly a mistake.

Bolden was a **** hair from being Super Bowl MVP in my opinion. He was an absolute stud in the Playoffs. So he dropped one pass.

The rich get richer, Jerry should talk to these two franchises to see how a real franchise is run.
