Barry Switzer, who coached the Dallas Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory in the 1995 season, has branched out. Call him Switzer the vintner.

Switzer has opened Switzer Family Vineyards, which features wines from the Napa Valley area of northern California. Republic National handles the distribution, primarily to Texas and Oklahoma.

Switzer expanded his interest in wine while coaching the Cowboys. Owner-general manager Jerry Jones likes to think of himself as a wine connoissuer and would include high-priced vintages in pre-game meals with Switzer.

The label of each bottle from Switzer Family Vineyards includes this inscription:

My rural home in Arkansas was a shotgun house built in 1893. You could shoot a shotgun through the front door, out the back, not hit a thing. Hallway down the middle with three rooms on each side. No electricity, no plumbing, heat from a wood stove, light from coal oil lamps. There was something special about that old house, and I think there is something special about our wine. I know, since I happen to be a bootleggers boy. Enjoy! Barry Switzer.
