Former assistant Pasqualoni questions club's decision to stay with status quo

Paul Pasqualoni served as defensive-line coach and interim defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys last season. He has moved back to the collegiate level, as head coach at Connecticut.

Pasqualoni conducted a question-and-answer session with UConn students this week. In one answer, Pasqualoni seemed to question owner-general manager Jerry Jones' decision to stand pat with last season's club. After going 11-5 and winning a playoff game for the first time in 13 years in 2009, the Cowboys dropped to 6-10 last season.

"It's not something I ever believed automatically carries over,'' Pasqualoni said. "Last year as we started the season with the Cowboys, they had won their first playoff game in quite a while, get into the season, we weren't winning very many games because I think the decision was made 'well we've come this far, we got this much done, maybe we can kind of pick up where we left off'."

"You can't do that in this game. The game requires you to start over every single year. So we're going to do that, figure out what our talents are and then go from there."

It's always been the biggest problem with this team. Jerry and Stephen. Two guys not qualified to hold the positions they have.

Fact of the matter is, Pasqualoni is right.

Far too often this team sits on its ass because it's content with what it did the year before. There's no urgency to look under every stone, no urgency to promote competition in camp, or any other activity that would indicate that this team is looking to get better each and every year.

This happens when you don't have quality football people in the building.

The worst part is that these idiots don't learn from their past. We stood pat from 2003, to 2004, and we went from a playoff team to a 6-10 loser.

We pretty much stood pat from 2007-2008, and we went from 13-3 to 9-7.

We did it again after we finally won a playoff game, and we went from 11-5 to 6-10.

The best teams never let anyone get too comfortable which is the exact opposite of how we've done things in recent years where everyone is a fat cat who gets to kick their feet up.

Hopefully, Garrett can convince Jerry to change this up a bit.
