Fisher: Vince Young is no longer the Titans starting quarterback

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 21, 2010, 5:06 PM EST

Titans coach Jeff Fisher has seen enough. Vince Young is through as his starting quarterback after another post-game meltdown.

Young suffered a torn flexor tendon in his thumb during the second half and did not return despite being seen on the sideline line warming up. Rusty Smith closed out the contest in a 19-16 overtime loss to the Redskins. Fisher said Young has lost his job regardless of his thumb injury.

As Young was leaving LP Field, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports Young threw his shoulder pads into the stands as he left the field. Minutes later, he left the locker room in street clothes.

“Safety Michael Griffin, wearing only a pair of shorts, ran out of the locker room and chased Young up a ramp to the players’ parking lot, but was unable to catch him,” Wyatt writes.

Young faced a lot of boos from the home crowd on Sunday, something he has struggled dealing with in the past. He waved to the fans at one point, as if to ask for more. Fisher was visibly upset with Young after the game.

Young’s immediate and long-term future in Tennessee will come under focus after this incident. He’s one of the highest paid quarterbacks in football, and is due $12.75 million next season, including a $4.25 million roster bonus.

UPDATE: Mike Florio reports that Chris Simms can expect to get a call from the Titans, via a league source.

He sucks, always did, always will. Just another overpaid overrated QB.

And it pisses me off as to how this team made him look like Steve Young, and he beat us down like Mighty Joe Young. Thanks Wade.

Give a round of thanks to the pitiful excuse of play by the players on the Cowboys as well. Not all JUST Wade's fault.
