Fisher on Young's benching: "He shouldn't like it"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 21, 2010 9:15 AM ET

After a flawless opening effort against the Raiders, Vince Young found himself back on the bench for the second half of Tennessee's loss to the Steelers.

Weren't we past this with him?

"I don't see it happening again and if it does I'll make the appropriate decision at that time. But Vince is our starter," coach Jeff Fisher said Monday via Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

Fisher cited Kerry Collins' experience against the Steelers as a reason he made the move. Fisher also pointed towards all the benchings around the league on Sunday as proof that quarterback is a tough position to play. But Young doesn't want his peers to be Matt Moore, Derek Anderson, and Jason Campbell.

Young certainly doesn't get paid like those guys.

"He shouldn't like it. Anybody you take out of the game, do you expect him to like it? No, he shouldn't like it," Fisher said. "And I would expect any player that was replaced for whatever reason not to be happy with it. But what you do is you come back to work, you work harder, you learn from it and you improve."

Right there is a window into Fisher's thinking. He's still trying to motivate his quarterback while winning games along the way. Young apologized to his fans via Twitter on Monday, but didn't speak otherwise.

Like a lot of Titans fans, Young probably thought he was past getting benched in Week Two.

Fisher better watch out if he does go back to benching him, he was suicidal before.

It's a business decision so Vince should just take it like a man.

I know I spoke out against hiring retread coaches, but I would make an exception for Fisher.

I like Fisher too. Here's my short list.

Cowher
Gruden
DeCamillus
Fisher
Can't think of his name at the moment the Colts OC. Leslie Frazor maybe?

No. Frazier is the DC for the Vikings. I'm not sure about Gruden, because I am not a fan of the WCO, but I'm sure that a guy that won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson at QB and Keyshawn Johnson, could do wonders with the talent we have on offense and have as stout a defense as what he had on the Super Bowl winning team.

But yeah, I like that list. I assume it's in no particular order. Thing about Fisher is that he might be burnt out, because he's currently the longest tenured coach with a single team, Reid is second. So Fisher might want to take a year off. Cowher... he lost his wife and naturally he is still grieving, and football might be the thing to get him going, but I don't want the Cowboys to be a rebound. So that leaves either Gruden or DeCamillis. Gruden has the experinece especially the Xs and Os, but DeCamillis has a presence about him.

Wait. No neck for head coach?

I feel like this should be written down and stuck to my refrigerator.

I just like his coaching style, you have to at least interview him, realistically he probably wouldn't coach this team, but hey.

So laughs the fool who thinks that Parcells was a better coach than Landry.

You have no credibility. I don't think there are many Giants' fans that would make a claim like that.
