The last time I covered the Senior Bowl in 2009, the Cowboys were without a first-round draft pick (via the Roy Williams trade) and ultimately didn't select until the third round (Jason Williams).

This year, there's more reason to watch the elite prospects here in Mobile, Ala. The Cowboys are picking ninth overall and could go in several directions, with offensive line, defensive line and safety generally speculated as the target positions.

As Nick mentioned, Texas A&M DE/OLB Von Miller is a top-10 prospect, though he might be an inside linebacker in a 3-4. Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder, Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan and Iowa defensive end Christian Ballard are among several first-round prospects scheduled to be here this week.

The North and South teams practice twice today and then once daily through Friday leading up to the Saturday game. The Bills and Bengals staffs will coach the two teams, but every NFL team will be here scouting.

One other note: although Jason Garrett's staff seems mostly in place, it's not finalized yet, and this is a big networking week for coaches on job hunts.

Von Miller is the player I'd least like to see us draft at #9. What little I seen of him play, he seemed to always try to run around the blocker.

I wonder why he's projected as a ILB in a 3/4.

This video will make some people think twice about Miller

I see a guy who relies too heavily on his speed and has a tendency to overpursue.

If we draft him, I will kill people.

You act like we don't need speed on D. Would you want to continually watch the plodding Anthony Spencer?

Miller made alot of plays, but he looks small to me. I havent watched him much live, but I did watch them vs Texas and in the bowl game vs LSU, and he looked like a big safety

Again, I like Von Miller but would not take him at 9.

I would rather move down and take Akeem Ayers in that case.

I also like Ryan Kerrigan and Aldon Smith.

I really hope Ryan has his choice in these defensive picks, because he knows the players he needs for his scheme.

I don't like coaches, especially assistant coaches, making draft picks. We went that route after Jimmy left to horrible results.

You want the scouting department having the biggest say. They're the guys who have studied these players year round.

Watch the video, his speed was not much of a factor and the players in the NFL are much faster.

Yeah, that video kind of sucks, but I watched him on this one, and man, his explosion just jumps right off the video...

My gosh.

Is his highlights in college so few that they have to spend the first minute of a 4 minute highlight video images of him just dancing around and goofing off?

He has like 20+ sacks in the last 2 years.

You don't think you could find a one-dimensional speed rusher somewhere else in the draft?

Not with his Dwight Freeney, type of speed and explosion.

If we could get 30 sacks from just the OLBs, that would be the ultimate.

He's not Dwight Freeney fast.

I promise.

Besides, what is Freeney known for? His spin move. Not just running wide of the tackle every play.
