Felix Jones worried about health, not role
November, 15, 2011
IRVING, Texas -- As Felix Jones handed out early Thanksgiving Day meals to needy folks at The Salvation Army’s Carr P. Collins Social Services Center in Dallas on Tuesday, the Cowboys’ running back was asked when he would return.
“I’m telling them just look forward to me being out there very soon,” Jones said. “Tune in.”
Jones missed the last four games with a high left ankle sprain suffered Oct. 16 at New England. The Cowboys are hopeful Jones will be able to practice and play this week. On his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Felix Jones would serve as DeMarco Murray’s backup when he returns.
Felix Jones said he is not worried about his role.
“Man, they’re really just worrying about me getting back on the field first then once that happens we’ll start talking about what’s going on on the field. Right now I’m just worried about my health and getting out on the field.”
Felix Jones said the ankle, “is getting to the point where I felt at the beginning of the season. That’s 100 percent. I’m getting there.”
Murray has taken hold of the tailback position with 601 yards in Jones’ absence with more than 100 yards in three of the four contests. Jones had 253 yards on 63 carries in the first five games of the season, matching what Murray did in a franchise-record performance against St. Louis on Oct. 23.
“What he’s done is very good,” Jones said. “I’ve just got to make sure I’m healthy when I get out there. He’s doing a great job. He’s handled the position very well. I just want to get out there and perform at a level I know I can do good at and now worry about my ankle and how it feel. I don’t need to rush it. If I did that I could possibly re-injure it again. I definitely want to take my time and be 100 percent before I get out there.”
