IRVING -- Cowboys starting running back Felix Jones got out of his protective boot on Monday and hopes to start practicing next week.

"I was so happy to get out of this thing, I don't even remember when it was," Jones joked after Cowboys practice on Wednesday.

Jones missed last week's game with a high left ankle sprain and is expected to miss Sunday's game at Philadelphia. Jones did not practice on Wednesday.

With Jones out of the lineup it enabled rookie DeMarco Murray to rush for a franchise-record 253 yards.

Coach Jason Garrett still won't commit to Murray taking over for Jones.

"Just have ongoing discussions about the role of our players," Garrett said. "We try to get everybody ready to play in the game throughout the week and then we decide on the roles and speak more specifically by the end of the week. Just like when Felix Jones was starting and DeMarco was getting reps, Tashard [Choice] was getting reps, that's how we do it. We want to make sure everybody is ready because if they're time comes they need to be ready to play particularly at that position."
