Felix Jones Heeded Emmitt's Advice

Posted by rphillips at 3/9/2011 11:35 AM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Felix Jones missed 12 of his first 32 regular-season games with injuries. Last year, he played all 16 and led the Cowboys in rushing for the first time in his career.

Jones said he's learned new ways to treat and manage his body during the course of a season, gaining tips from current teammates, ex-Cowboys veterans and even Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, who made a practice of visiting a chiropractor as a player.

“Other things that would help me out, little things to take care of your body,” Jones said said during Super Bowl week. “You’d think that doesn’t help, but those things help you out the most."

Jones handled a team-high 185 carries -- more than his first two seasons combined -- without incident.

More on Jones' in-season health and the importance of the Cowboys' offseason program -- provided there's no NFL lockout -- later on.

There's not much I like about Emmitt since he's left the team, but I do like that he's helped FJ stay on the field. Emmitt was a master at taking care of himself.

Hopefully it helps him out, I'd like to see a full 16 games out of FJ and more production.

Yea, no doubt. Dallas is definately to finesse and pass happy for my likes.

Dallas needs to get back to the nasty and finding a RB that can pound it.

We ran the ball 428 times last year. Our opponents ran the ball 402 times against us.

We just don't have that workhorse back. But then again, the majority of the NFL has shifted to the RB by committee approach.
