Mount%20Soledad%20Cross%20Controversy.jpg

A cross atop Mount Soledad in California is an unconstitutional religious display on government land and must come down, a federal judge in San Diego ruled late Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered the cross, which honors veterans, must be removed within 90 days -- a decision that could result in the case being sent back to the U.S. Supreme Court. Burns immediately stayed his order pending an expected appeal.

The original lawsuit was filed in 2006 by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the Jewish Veterans of the United States of American and several other Southern California residents.

“We support the government paying tribute to those who served bravely in our country’s armed forces,” the ACLU’s Daniel Mach, said in a statement to the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. “But we should honor all of our heroes under one flag, not just one particular religious symbol.”

Bruce Bailey, president of the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association, expressed disappointment in the ruling.

"It is unfortunate that the Ninth Circuit left the judge no choice but to order the tearing down of the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial Cross," Bailey told Fox News. "However, we are grateful for the judge's stay that gives us an opportunity to fight this all the way to the Supreme Court."

Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for Liberty Institute, said in a statement to Fox News that they will continue to “fight for this memorial and the selfless sacrifice and service of all the millions of veterans it represents; it is the least we can do for those who gave so much to us all."

If the SCOTUS makes this come down, what will they do with Arlington National Cemetery?

Don't you donate to the ACLU, JBond?

LOL...

They do get some things correct, but this is just a bunch of busybodies that need a hobby or something else to occupy their time. The Jews still have issue with admitting their part in the murder of Christ and the cross continually reminds them of it. It was all foretold so they need to get over it.

The crazy thing about this controversy is it has been going on since 1989. The city twice sold the land to private groups so the cross could stay and twice the courts voided the sale. Then the feds came in and decided they own that land and stole it. The Feds acquired the memorial property from the City via eminent domain on August 14, 2006. Now it is a big issue again since the feds stole the land.

What the fuck ever happened to majority rules? So if 8 out of 10 people are ok with a cross on the top of a hill, it's got to come down because 2 of 10 people don't like it?

Mother fuckers with nothing else to do but BITCH.

I love how the left preaches tolerance and then does things like this.

Boise has an illuminated cross that sits atop a mesa overlooking the city. Some time back some dude tried forcing it to be moved down and I think it came down to the cross resting on private land and everyone told him to fuck off.

Then the wonderful inbred Phelps clan from Topeka came to town and starting bitching about a statue of the 10 Commandments that was located in a park smack dab in the middle of the city. They wasted everyone's time and the statue had to be moved about a mile away where a local church offered to display it out in the front of their property.

These fuckers seek out these little crusades just to say they did it. I hope the guy walks in front of it and the fucking thing topples over on him and splatters his ass. Just a waste of fucking time and resources.
