End or Tackle? Tyrone Crawford Still Not Sure
Tyrone Crawford missed the 2013 season due to a torn achilles

It was about a year ago that Cowboys defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford suffered a torn achilles on the first day of training camp, ending his 2013 season before it ever got started. Crawford acknowledges that missing last season has proved a real setback this offseason, but he’s confident it’s just a matter of time before he shakes the rust off.

“Yeah, in a way just being as rusty as I was my rookie season, definitely don’t feel as good as I did last year during OTAs time,” Crawford told Bryan Broaddus of the team’s official website. “But that has to do with just being out for a year, not getting off the ball, not playing against an offensive lineman. It’s going to take some time but it’s getting better and better every day and I’m enjoying it.”

Broaddus asked Crawford, who goes into the 2014 campaign with just 20 career tackles, if the coaches had given him any indication as to where they’d be using him next season--he can play both end and tackle.

“I thought they did and then I got confused again, so not yet. But I’m sure here eventually, pretty soon I’ll sit down with coaches and see exactly,” he said. “... whatever I am playing I just want to focus there. I can do both but I want to get better at the tackle. Right now my upside is the end. I do want to get better rushing from the tackle spot, but I want to get better rushing at the end, too.”

but he was supposed to start over Hatcher last year?

Don't most unproven second year players who don't even know their best position usually beat out 8th year veterans?

Pretty sure had he stayed healthy, he'd have ended up at LDE with the way things played out.

Due to Spencer's injury, probably. He was never going to start at DT over Hatcher as a certain know-it-all claims.

If he had stayed healthy and had a good camp, he might have started next to Hatcher at DT though.

I don't get how he fits as quick and aggressive DE. He's an athletic but undersized DT. Then again nothing makes sense on the Cowboys roster: A starting safety who is slower than the coaches. Another safety who is an anointed DB messiah but he has not been in a regular season game ever after 3 years on the roster, a running back whose weakness is running, an offense requiring deep speed but lacks players with deep speed, and a play action scheme where they call plays with 5WRs at crucial ball and clock control times to protect a lead.

Tyrone is not the only one confused.

Yeah, Tyrone is as tweener as it gets.

Didn't really flash in college but still managed to get on a lot of people's underrated list.
