Abe Elam heads to Florida after his father passes away, plans to be back for Cardinals game

Safety Abe Elam's learned his father passed away sometime during during practice on Thursday.

He finished practice and then headed home to Florida to be with his family via owner Jerry Jones' private jet.

Funeral services have not yet been set. But Elam is expected to join the team in Phoenix for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Abram Elam back at practice, team offers support

IRVING, Texas -- Safety Abram Elam was at meetings Friday after flying back to Riviera Beach, Fla., to be with his family following the passing of his father, Donald.

Elam flew on owner and general manager Jerry Jones’ private plane and he will play Sunday against Arizona. Funeral arrangements are not yet known.

“I can’t speak from personal experience, so I don’t know but I know how difficult death is and how close he has been to his family,” coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s certainly a difficult time. What we’ve tried to express to him is that he has great organizational support, support from his team and support from his teammates and coaches to help him try to get through it … We are here for him certainly in this difficult time he’s going through.”

Elam found out about his father’s death during Thursday’s practice. Several teammates expressed their sympathy through Twitter last night.
