Club Talking With 5 Potential Free Agents

Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas - The second day of free agency has yet to provide any fireworks, but that doesn't mean Wednesday won't end up that way.

The Cowboys started off the free-agent signing period actively pursuing a handful of players. Many of those guys are still in the area, and even at Valley Ranch, with others coming in later in the day.

When and if the dust settles, the Cowboys could sign at least two players Wednesday, possibly more. Kyle Orton could be the first player to sign with the Cowboys here in free agency, as a deal is close.

The biggest names on the list are cornerback Brandon Carr, who is one of the better players still unsigned. Carr, who played four seasons with the Chiefs, is seeking a contract that will make him one of the NFL's highest-paid corners. He visited with the Cowboys and the defensive coaches Tuesday night at Cowboys Stadium.

Carr's teammate for half of the season in Kansas City was quarterback Kyle Orton, who has played with Denver and Chicago. Orton also visited the Cowboys and remains in town, possibly waiting to finalize a deal to become Tony Romo's backup. There are reports surfacing that Orton has reached a three-year deal but the team hasn't announced such a move.

Carolina guard McKenzy Bernadeau is currently at Valley Ranch and meeting with the coaching staff, including new offensive line coach Bill Callahan. Bernadeau played four years with the Panthers, mostly as a backup but does have 20 career starts.

The Cowboys are also visiting with Bears tight end Kellen Davis. The four-year vet was more of a blocking and short-yardage tight end with Chicago. Davis only caught 18 passes for 206 yards, but had five touchdowns in 2011.

Carolina linebacker Dan Connor is expected to be at Valley Ranch by Wednesday afternoon. Connor was a college teammate of Sean Lee for two years at Penn State. Connor played in 15 games, starting 11 last year for the Panthers, ranking third on the team with 87 tackles.

Who the F is that?

I haven't a clue.

Guess he's been in the league for like 4 years but didn't play a down in his rookie season.

Started 7 games his second year.

12 his 3rd year and looks to have sucked because he appears to have went to backup status for 2011.

it is strange to be interested in a backup guard when we have all these backup type guard-centers....

unless they see him as a center or something.

Incarceratedbob says Carr is done.

Which is basically about a coin toss.

I can't wait for you and your Zone clones to tell us how great he is once we sign him.

I wish I could...I have no idea who he is or know anything about him

Sounds like he might be our next Montrae Holland (minus the weight problems)

who is this bob character...

sounds like he could source with the best of them at hostile world

He's a guy who tweets all this secret info he gets, basically just throwing darts, and then thumps his chest when he turns out right.

He's notorious for "breaking" signings that never happen and then pissing on people who have ever doubted him for it by tallying up his "wins" for all to see.

He said the Mario deal in Buffalo was "done" yesterday.

Said Peyton was going to Denver.

But also said the Carr deal was done a while before it happened after all the other media folk were speculating it was gonna go done.

He's wrong as much as he is right so you toss a coin if he says something. It's just funny watching him act out the way he does when people harass him for his misses.
