Good To Go
Scandrick Ready; Preparing For Welker

IRVING, Texas - Four games into the regular season and we've already seen quite a few things from this Cowboys team.

We've seen comeback wins, comeback losses. Last-second kicks, overtime scores and many surprising performances by players we never even expected on the roster - some of whom weren't on the roster when the season began.

What we haven't seen yet? How about the full stable of cornerbacks. But if all goes well here in the next week, that should change when the Cowboys take the field on Oct. 16 against the Patriots. That's when Orlando Scandrick is expected to be back from a high-ankle sprain he suffered against the Jets in Week 1.

And missing that game was Terence Newman, who didn't make his season debut until Sept. 26 against the Redskins. And in between, right cornerback Mike Jenkins has been anything but 100 percent health-wise, suffering numerous injuries from neck, shoulder and knee setbacks, although he's managed to get through each game.

With Jenkins and Newman both getting a much-needed break, the addition of Scandrick will put the Cowboys at full strength at cornerback for the first time this season. And that comes at a great time considering the Cowboys are likely facing their toughest passing test of the year in New England, which features Tom Brady and Wes Welker, who leads the NFL by far with 40 catches through four games.

Scandrick said he's "good to go" to play this week and that he'd be ready if there was a game this Sunday instead of the bye.

But with the Patriots being next on the schedule, Scandrick said he's already got tape of the Patriots, including Welker, who he will likely be manned against in the slot.

"I feel good,'' Scandrick said "I'm excited about the challenge to come back and play against Wes Walker. It's an extreme challenge that I'm looking forward to."

When Scandrick first went out against the Jets back on Sept. 11, the Cowboys were also without Newman, and Jenkins suffered injuries throughout the game. It left Alan Ball, Bryan McCann, who has since been released, and converted safety Barry Church to play cornerback.

The next week, Frank Walker was signed to help and Newman returned against the Redskins in Week 3.

"It's frustrating. Those guys did a good job," Scandrick said. "That (Detroit) game was tough to stomach and watch unfold. You can't worry about the things you can't control. I'm just looking forward to being back with the guys."

Scandrick said he expects to return to practice next week, possibly on Wednesday.

"I'll practice sometime next week and I am going to play,'' Scandrick said. "I've seen a doctor and he said if we had a game this week, I would play.''
