Sapp Has Interesting Take On Defense

If you’ve been watching the countdown of the Top 100 player on NFL Network, you’ve been seeing a few Cowboys make the list here lately as three have gone in the 70’s – with Miles Austin (70), Tony Romo (72) and Jay Ratliff (75) all going here in the last two episodes.
That means three are remaining on the list, which has down revealed up to 61. I think we all know DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten will make it, but that third guy is a mystery. Even on the set last night, both Kurt Warner and Warren Sapp tried to figure it out, tossing out names such as Andre Gurode, Dez Bryant and then Sapp said he thought it would be either Bradie James or Anthony Spencer.
Sapp said this about James: “When you're talking about middle linebackers in this game, Bradie James is a guy that comes off the tape,” Sapp said. “He's in the middle of that defense. He’s getting them on the same page ... He's coming after them.”
Sapp also pointed out the great finish to the 2009 season of Spencer and thought he was a worthy candidate.
Regardless, that next Cowboys player off the list will be somewhat of a surprise, considering he will be ahead of Romo, Austin and Ratliff, whom surprisingly enough, was too high on the list for Sapp’s taste.
Having asked to name a player or two that was either too high or too low on the list, Sapp picked out Ratliff and said “no way, not from what I saw last year.” That’s an interesting take from another defensive tackle who certainly doesn’t want to hear any excuses about being double-teamed.
I respect Warren Sapp’s opinion and definitely the way he played the game, but it definitely surprises me to hear that he believes James is basically the centerpiece of the defense and that Ratliff is overrated, at least from the list by the players.
