Others Can Put Dez Into Perspective

Comparing players to other players is always a risky situation. Everything is different. And it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about the same sport, or even the same position.

But just hearing about the incident involving Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall, who was apparently stabbed by his wife, it has a way of diminishing saggy pants in the mall, just a little.

Again, I know everything is different. I’m not trying to say “Hey, at least Dez Bryant isn’t doing this or that.” But I guess . . . yeah, at least Dez isn’t doing that. Maybe that is what I’m saying.

And I have to admit, I have been pretty harsh on Dez here this offseason. I have that feeling that he’s always going to have something like – a mall incident with off-duty officers, or lawsuits for unpaid bills, or whatever else might occur.

But I guess when you think about what other players – and consequently other teams - are dealing with, then it doesn’t make it so bad after all.

Once again, I’m trying to keep these players and their personal lives completely isolated. But both players, Marshall and Dez were guys that went to a new team last year. And before they got to their respective destinations, there were plenty of warning signs about both of them and their off-the-field issues. Miami knew what it was getting with Marshall. And the same with the Cowboys.

So far, they’ve both pretty much held true to form. But when you think about what the Cowboys have in a player like Dez Bryant and the things he has going on his life, other situations around the league make one thing rather clear: things could be a lot worse.
