He might not be in the Cowboys Ring of Honor, but former wide receiver Drew Pearson was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on Monday night.
Along with Pearson's induction was Clint Murchison, the first owner of the Cowboys.
Murchison, who died in 1987, was responsible for hiring Tex Schramm, Tom Landry and Gil Brandt. Under Murchison, the Cowboys went to five Super Bowls and won two titles. He also one of many responsible for the building of Texas Stadium in 1971. When the stadium was torn down last year, family members attended the event.
Pearson was a three-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection where he caught 489 passes for 7,822 yards and 48 touchdowns. He was also a member of the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1970s.
Also inducted into the Class of 2010 were Charley Johnson from Big Springs, Texas, who played basketball and football at New Mexico State. Johnson is the only player in school history to have his football jersey retired.
Donna Lopiano, the University of Texas' athletic director for 17 years. Lopiano was instrumental in getting equal rights for women athletes on the college level.
John Randle, a Hearne, Texas native, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year and a member of the NFL's All-Decade team of the 1990s.
Jim Sundberg, who played with the Texas Rangers and was the first player to participate in more than 1,500 games in franchise history.
Emmitt Thomas, a Angleton, Texas native, played for the Kansas City Chiefs for 13 years and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
Willie Wells, who is from Austin, Texas, was a Negro League shortstop who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
Laura Wilkinson a 2000 Olympic Gold medalist in Platform Diving. She is the only woman to win platform gold in the World Championships, World Cup and Olympic games. She won two national titles and was a eight-time All-American at Texas.
