Broaddus Breakdown (viewed California, Georgia and Oklahoma games): Was the starter at right corner for Colorado. … Has a long build on tape. Similar to what former Cowboys safety Pat Watkins looked like, but his footwork, ability to turn and run makes Watkins look foolish. … Impressive with how tight he can play to the receiver and give them no room. Runs with his man like they are breathing the same air; he is that tight. Plays well with his hands and when he gets his hands on you, he can redirect easily. … In off coverage, he pedals with ease. He is a hard man to run by. Turns quick for a player with such long legs. No wasted movement or motion. Can flip his hips and explode. Can keep position in the route. Does not labor at all. … Was really impressed with his ability to cover A.J. Green of Georgia. Bulldogs tried to send Green on a vertical route, inside down the middle of the field. Smith is lined up in outside technique, reads the break and drives to the middle of the field as Green is in the clear. The ball is well thrown but Smith is there to knock the pass away. Later in the game, Green lines up wide in the red zone setting up the fade. Green tries to beat Smith inside but Smith cuts off that route with his feet, then jams Green with his hands. As Green tries to separate, Smith drives allowing no space for the ball to be fit in. As the game wore on, the Georgia coaches moved Green to the opposite side of the field away from Smith and he was able to make play after play. … Will throw his body around as a tackler. In the Oklahoma game, he was able to make two really nice open-field tackles, one against DeMarco Murray on a swing pass. … One of my favorite combine numbers to look at for defensive backs that tells me about their quickness is the 20-yard shuttle. Of the three top corners, Smith is slightly ahead of Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara in that area (4.06 to 4.07 and 4.08); all three of those numbers are impressive. … There are some questions about failed drug tests in his history. That will surely hurt his stock with teams even taking him off some draft boards, but there is no doubting his ability on tape. … Remember this about Jimmy Smith: He went toe to toe with the best receiver in this draft and won. … I would watch the teams that bring him in for pre-draft visits. Those are the clubs that are most likely to turn his name in during this 2011 NFL draft.
