As Tony Romo has grown into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he has sprung many fathers, as a former coach around here liked to say.

In other words, many people laid claim to being the first guy that found Romo, or the coach as the biggest reason why Romo has developed into the way he's developed. Sean Payton gets credit because of their Eastern Illinois ties. David Lee gets credit because he would show up at Valley Ranch and catch passes from Romo at any hour as the QB retooled his release. Parcells got the credit for handing the team over to Romo in 2006. Chris Palmer was his QBs coach that year and worked well with him.

All of them deserve a piece of credit for Romo's success, but one guy gets overlooked too often. He'll be standing on the Miami sideline tonight - Tony Sparano.

Sparano was the Cowboys' playcaller in 2006 when Romo took over. He helped managed the young quarterback through the final 10 games of the season.

"Tony was good to talk to," Romo said. "We'd sit down and it was good. He's got a good mind for football and a great coach. And you're seeing him do really good things in Miami."
