DALLAS -- After winning the Ivy League Player of the Year award in 1988 while at Princeton, Jason Garrett was on New Orleans’ developmental squad a year later where he met Dom Capers, who was a defensive assistant coach for the Saints.

In 2006 they were assistants on Nick Saban’s staff in Miami and had Garrett accepted the positions in Baltimore or Atlanta in 2008 Capers would have been his defensive coordinator.

Capers is in Garrett’s backyard this week as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator, getting ready to play in Super Bowl XLV, and he could not say enough good things about the Cowboys’ newest head coach.

“He’s very bright, very analytical and he has great people skills,” Capers said. “I think he’s got great leadership skills. I think players will relate to him because h played the game a long time. He’s an even guy. He’s not going to get too up or down based on how things are going. I think he’ll have an outstanding plan and have the courage to stick with it.”
