He's over 30 and playing like one of the best DL in the league

Seriously, what was Wrong with waiting to extend Ratliff? If you did then you could've seen he was breaking down. And if he held out of TC then trade a nice pick for him and kept hatcher and added a good young DL. It was almost like they had to let it be known they hit on a 7th rounder who is now commanding top dollar

It's not almost like that, it's exactly that. That's why Jerry loves paying his guys such big money. He thinks it shows everyone what a good GM he is.

I remember when he traded for Pacman and it came out that we offered way more than anyone else. Jerry proudly said he knew he was overpaying, or some of his best deals came when he overpaid, or something ridiculous like that.

Yes. 2 year deal of maybe $8 million. It would be his first and last big contract. He's more than earned it.

No. Props to Ratliff. He's playing at an All Pro level this year. But yeah, don't pay age.

Also, guys been a slightly better than average DL his whole career and is suddenly a monster under Marinelli?

Nope... I'd rather give Marinelli a raise, and tell him to do whatever he's doign with a new group of younger players.

Should we? Absolutely not.

Will Jerry? Yes, and it will be a way-too-large contract.

I don't know how you can say absolutely not. I wouldn't break the bank to keep him, but if we can get him on a manageable deal and he doesn't get injured or have his play fall off the globe the rest of the yr, there is nothing wrong with keeping him with another 3 yrs deal or something.

The money we spend on Hatcher, even at a reasonable rate for a veteran, would get us two younger players. Too many holes on that D Line.

I guess it depends on how things play out. Supposedly Marinelli loves the guy though.

Hopefully we get lucky with some of these young guys here now. Then there's also the draft which I think is a safe bet to say will be defensive side of the ball heavy.

With the lack of cap growth, vets are coming fairly cheap anymore.

3 years max. Wait and see what he gets offered and if we can come close, go for it.

If you can get him for 2 years, why not? The guy is playing well, and he can fill a hole on the DLine for a year or two. Its not like we are going to go out and get some young guy whose going to give us this prediction. Remember, we have an aging QB, this team has to win now, not in 4 years.

Which young guys are you referring to?

Regarding the draft, I want the best o-line or d-line guy available in round one and the best RB or FS in two.

Hatcher has been here a while. He understands how it works. Perform in a contract year and wait for the cash to roll in.

If the team hadn't fucked up the franchise tag shit with Spencer, they'd actually look smart for using it on him next year.

He's playing out of his mind right now. I doubt he has a whole lot of years left so I don't like the longterm option but for what he's doing right now I'd pay $8.5M for it. Damn, the team's paying that much right now so Austin and Berny can sit on the bench and so Ratliff can sit at home.

Plus, the salary cap is bullshit. Just restructure some more, right guys?

FWIW Hatcher has been one of the best players Dallas has had over the past couple years in terms of bang for you buck. He's been performing well for a bit.

This year he's just fucking insane.

Nevis, Austin, Wilbur, Wynn, Ceasar, Selvie (appears we have something in him). Any of these guys that show they can play is a huge bonus because they will be extremely cap friendly. Crawford will be back next year too.

Not sure I agree on RB or FS thing. We may have answers here now for that. To me its all about DL and OL next yr.

I don't see us able to keep him if he gets top dollar, and he is having a huge year right now.

No. You don't pay age. He's already at the stage where he's beaten up and missing practices. That's the exact path that Ratliff went down and eventually even that doesn't save the guy from becoming more and more ineffective.
