The five best Dallas Cowboys CBs of all time, ranked: Is Prime Time No. 1 or is it one of Landry's stars?
By SportsDayDFW.com
Editor's note: SportsDay is beginning a series that attempts to figure out the best Dallas Cowboys players at each position. Today we examine cornerbacks.
The Dallas Cowboys' organization is one of great success and has an illustrious history. There have been some big names that have worn jerseys for America's Team.
Out of all of the cornerbacks in franchise history, who was the best? That's what our panel of writers and columnists tried to determine.
Each voter named their top five cornerbacks. A first-place vote counted for five points, second place gets four points, third place gets three points and so on.
Those who listed their top five players include Brandon George, Kate Hairopoulos, David Moore, Jon Machota, Tim Cowlishaw, Rick Gosselin and Kevin Sherrington.
Here's how they broke it down:
1. Mel Renfro (7 first-place votes), 35 points
2. Everson Walls, 26 points
3. Deion Sanders, 21 points
4. Terence Newman, 16 points
5. Cornell Green, 7 points
The rundown
George: Mel Renfro was a lifetime Cowboys player, reaching 10 Pro Bowls en route to the Hall of Fame.
Hairopoulos: Renfro had 52 career interceptions.
Moore: Walls is underappreciated. Old-timers will tell you Green is Ring of Honor's biggest omission.
Machota: I've never seen a more feared CB than Deion Sanders. A once in a generation talent.
Cowlishaw: Haven't seen any Walls-types here the last 20 years.
Gosselin: Walls & Green are overdue their recognition for the Cowboys' Ring of Honor.
Sherrington: Not enough recent Cowboys competing for this position.
