OBSERVATION DECK:
Here's what I saw from the Cowboys' 12th training camp practice Tuesday afternoon at the Alamodome in San Antonio:

• Rookie CB Josh Thomas of Cedar Hill had a good day. Thomas came on a blitz from the inside early in team drills and would have sacked QB Jon Kitna. He then broke up a pass by Tony Romo intended for WR Jesse Holley. Later, Thomas intercepted a pass from QB Tom Brandstater down the right sideline that was intended for rookie WR Dwayne Harris.

• The Cowboys' afternoon practice was without pads for the first time since Day 2 of training camp.

• Undrafted rookie free agent LB Orie Lemon (Oklahoma State) continued to impress. Early in team drills, he would have sacked QB Stephen McGee.

• TE John Phillips dropped a pass over the middle from Stephen McGee.

• Late in team drills, safety Andrew Sendejo intercepted a pass over the middle from QB Tom Brandstater.

• NT Josh Brent stopped RB Phillip Tanner for a loss on a run to the right side.

• Undrafted rookie free agent WR Lyle Leong (Texas Tech) had a good day. He made several nice catches, his best came when he showcased his high-jumping skills by jumping high over the middle to pull in a pass from QB Tom Brandstater.

• Third-string QB Stephen McGee continued to have an impressive camp by lacing a nice pass deep over the middle, hitting Jesse Holley in stride.

• Cowboys WR Dez Bryant had his right thumb wrapped in tape as he left the field. Bryant said it was because of a line-drive Tony Romo pass. Bryant said his thumb is fine.

• RB Felix Jones made a one-handed catch on a Tony Romo line-drive swing pass to the left. Jones has shown great speed in camp, especially on screens.

• Safety Gerald Sensabaugh had a pass breakup over the middle on a Stephen McGee pass that was intended for WR Dez Bryant.

• After a standout practice Monday, safety Abram Elam made a nice play on a pass over the middle from Stephen McGee. Elam broke quickly on the ball and reached around the receiver in 6-on-8 drills to knock the pass away with one hand.

• Kevin Ogletree, trying to claim the third wide receiver spot, dropped a pass to the left sideline in team drills.

• WR Tysson Poots had several nice catches Tuesday, most on passes over the middle.

If Jerry Jones acquires Taylor "makes no plays" Mays, I will immediately move up to #1 on the anti-Jerry list

I know you love the guy CM, but he cant play.

You would never say anything bad about your god. I can't even believe you just typed that. I'm sure you called Jerry immediately and told him your fingers were crossed.

Mays will be fine in the right scheme. He has to work on his coverage but the kid is big, fast, and routinely made some of the biggest hits in college football. I'd love to see him at SS in Ryan's scheme.

I dont thnk Mays fits any scheme today at safety. He might be able to make a Thomas Davis like conversion to OLB in a 4-3 though.

I think the fact that Jim Harbaugh coached against him for several seasons at Stanford, then arrvied at SF and almost immediately decided he didnt want him there is somewhat telling.

They have history. When Stanford ran up the score on USC and went for 2 late in the game, Mays went to the Stanford sideline and called Harbaugh a dbair (bitch).

I think it's too early to close the book on Mays. He made a lot of plays on Special Teams for the 49ers and had 11 tackles in his first NFL start.

I think it's funny that someone (YOU) who claims every young Cowboy no name rookie free agent just needs time, is so willing to say this guy has no chance.

I dont do that though. There are just some guys that are like trying to fit the square peg into the round hole, and I think he is one of them.

I think we have something in Barry Church. That's our SS.

*this coming from a Taylor Mays homer*
