The Cowboys open the pre-season at Cowboys Stadium tomorrow night against Denver.
Jason Garrett will follow the script used by Cowboys head coach coaches before him. The starters will get a series, maybe two, before he turns the game over to the backups.
"We don't put a particular play number or drive number on it,'' Garrett said. "But we like to get the first units out there and have a good couple of drives, eight to 10 to 12 plays, where we feel good about it, then get the second guys in there and see them work.''
David Buehler and Dan Bailey will both be given the chance to kick as they compete for the field goal job.
"It will be systematic,'' Garrett said. "Not quite alternating, but each of them will get a chance.
"Hopefully it will be an equal shot as the game goes on.''
Not all of the starters will be limited to a series or two. Some of the younger players, like first round pick Tryon Smith and rookie David Arkin, will play more.
"We're going to get a chance to see a lot of young guys play tomorrow,'' Garrett said.
