DeMarcus Ware was a pretty good linebacker before Rob Ryan came along. But the Cowboys defensive coordinator has reduced the constant double teams Ware encountered in previous seasons by moving him around.
Say Ware lines up on the side without a tight end. If Ryan sends a corner or safety blitz from the opposite side, it forces the running back to pick up the blitzer and leaves Ware with only a single blocker to beat.
"When I was a rookie, they just left me over there and let guys block me,'' Ware said of the 2005 season. "Since my first year, this is the first time I haven't gotten a lot of double-teams, a lot of chips.''
Does he find it invigorating?
"I don't say invigorating,'' Ware replied. "I say salivating.
"That's how us defensive guys are. We feel like we're scalded dogs out there. You've got to be able to eat. Every single play when it comes to the pass rush you have to put pressure on the quarterback.''
