DMN Blog: Offensive line holds: Doug Free keeps Mario Williams off sack sheet

We talked about Doug Free late last week and his work against pass rushers like Washington's Andre Carter and Chicago's Julius Peppers in the first two weeks.

Neither guy had a sack in the first two games, working mostly against Free.
Sunday's test was Houston's Mario Williams, who entered with four sacks. Williams still has four sacks.

Once again, Free got the job done.

Great game by Free.

I hope SBK acknowledges it. :sneaky:

I acknowledge he played solid with help, yes.

I never said he couldn't play. But try to understand me here. LT is one of the cornerstone pieces on your football team. I want better than solid there. I want a stud. A true franchise guy.

Doug Free will never be that. So I'll never like him playing there for my team.

Mark Tuinei was a decent LT, but a "stud"? No. I don't think so.

Wow, Mike.

No "wow" about it.

He was a decent LT, but he was like Nate Newton, pretty much just "a guy" until more talented players showed up on the offense.

I don't think he was as good a lineman as Erik Williams, Mark Step and later, Larry Allen.

He wasn't as good as Williams and Allen but he was pretty damn good and light years a better player than Doug Free.

Sure at the highpoint of his career he was a good player, but Free's far from his high point.

'87 and '88, the Cowboy's best lineman was Crawford Kerr. Not Tuinei or Nate Newton.

Doug Free is gonna make some probowls before all is said and done. Not sure what SBK is seeing, but this guy has real talent for the LT position.

Houck's caught alot of grief the past few seasons here, but he's done an exceptional job with Free.

Doug Free was a MAJOR reason why Dallas won yesterday.

Matter of fact, where is HIS Appreciation thread? Free could easily end up as a solid LT. IMO, he is already starting to be one. The dude just balls. And, I don't recall hearing ONE false start penalty called against him yesterday, hurting a drive.

Yep, I will take Free any day of the week on the offensive line. Gimme a couple more of him.

You're right we should have a thread for Free, because he played a good game as well protecting Romo's blindside.

The entire line has improved... What's it been like 110 attempts without a sack? I don't care how you slice it... That's good.

Agreed.

Isn't this a thread for Free?

I have no idea why anyone would be looking at his play and thinking "Nope, not good enough for my team."

An appreciation thread like the one Roy had, that's all.

We can just use this one, and you are an ugly mutha fucker.

How come no mention of Orakpo? Free was on him, until they moved Orakpo because he wasn't having success against Free.

And some players like him for the interior.

What I witnessed was Free playing well on his own, not with any help, am I missing something here?
