Since the NFL first started awarding compensatory draft picks in 1994, the Patriots have received 33 selections. That ranks as the fourth-highest total in the NFL, behind the Ravens (47), Cowboys (37) and Packers (37).

kind of surprised Dallas is that high in this stat

For the longest time we were first. Our team from the 90's was raided almost every year once free agency started.

Just off the top of my head, guys we lost via free agency back from those early-mid 90's teams:

Ken Norton, Darrin Smith, Jimmie Jones, Jim Jeffcoat, James Washington, Thomas Everett, Alvin Harper, Kevin Williams, Ron Stone (he might have signed as RFA, but either way he left via f/a), John Gesek, Steve Buerlien, pretty sure Dixon Edwards was a f/a when he left, Russell Maryland, Larry Brown, Kenny Gant

I'm sure I'm missing others

Also lost Tony Casillas (although he came back a year later), Dixon Edwards, Robert Jones, Randall Godfrey, Kevin Gogan, and Brock Marion.

lol, didn't realize it went that far back. Thought maybe they deserved credit for doing something decent but as usual anything good sprung from Jimmy

Free agency started fully the yr after we won our 2nd super bowl. I think the cap the first yr was something like 40 million or so.

And we had a roster beyond loaded thanks to Jimmy

For some reason I didn't realize the compensatory picks came with free agency, I thought that was a relatively new thing.

I wonder would the leaderboard would look like if it was only for the last 20 years
