Wade Phillips opened his press conference by saying Wednesday's practice was "the best open-date practice that we've had since I've been here."

And it came with starters Marc Colombo, Kyle Kosier and Jason Witten sitting out and regulars, like Dez Bryant and Sam Hurd, resting too.

Phillips said the decision to rest Colombo was precautionary. He missed the season opener at Washington after undergoing surgery in training camp. He has played the last two weeks without any problems.

Kosier and Witten suffered knee sprains in the win at Houston and were not expected to practice. Phillips said both players would be reevaluated next week. The Cowboys hope to have Witten for their next game, at home against Tennessee on Oct. 10. They are less certain about Kosier.

Bryant has a stress fracture in his ribs, but Phillips said the rookie wide receiver also had his hip looked at today. Bryant ran into a cameraman on the sideline on his 30-yard catch. Hurd also has a bruised hip
