For being slowed much of training camp with a shoulder stinger, cornerback Mike Jenkins has been a strong player in the Cowboys’ first two games, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said.

“The kid’s been playing great,” Ryan said. “He gives us everything we’ve asked for and more. He’s tackled well. Really well. That tackle he had on Burris was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. He competes. He mis-timed the jump on the throw in the end zone, but other than that, he’s been playing outstanding defense for us.”

Jenkins gave up a touchdown pass to Kyle Williams in the San Francisco game. He’s made four tackles and has two pass breakups.

Ryan said the defense is tackling well, in general.

“Our guys are excellent players, so we can tackle,” Ryan said. “Bad tackling usually means you don’t have good athletes. We’ve got good athletes. We can tackle. It’s a point of emphasis, and our players do a good job of that.”

I disagree that bad tackling is due to lack of athleticism. I put that on lack of sticking to the fundamentals. There are great athletes who like to go for the big hit, and sometimes don't bring a guy down due to it. Wrapping up while aiming square in the middle, or wrapping up a guy at the legs is the way to bring a guy down.
