While some players did not want to divulge what Jerry Jones said to them in Monday's pep talk from the Cowboys owner and general manager, this is what DeMarcus Ware took away:
"Put up or shut up, that's what I got," Ware said. "You know you guys have everything in place. I have made the team what it is right now and everybody is playing well on this team. But the thing is the way we are playing [selfish] and undisciplined. We have to stop being our own Achilles' heel and win some games.
Jones will talk to the team after games in the locker room and at different points during the season. Ware said the talk was not solely about the positives.
"He wasn't like happy go lucky because it's not a happy go lucky time," Ware said. "He was stern in what he said."
Said Jason Witten, "It felt good to see that he believes in us and put it in perspective of where we are. When you hear that from the top I definitely think it lays out an itinerary of what needs to be done to have success."
