FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – DeMarco Murray had mixed results in his first action as the lead horse in the Cowboys’ backfield.
The Cowboys relied on Murray more than Tashard Choice, who killed a golden scoring opportunity with a lost fumble in the first quarter, after Felix Jones suffered a high ankle sprain.
The third-round rookie responded immediately, carrying five times for 24 yards on the touchdown drive near the end of the first half.
But the rest of the game didn’t go so well with Murray. He finished with 32 yards on 10 carries. He lost yardage on his last two carries, putting the Cowboys in a third-and-long situation and essentially killing any chance of a time-chewing first down.
“I thought I did all right,” said Murray, who had only 39 yards on 14 carries in the first four games. “There are definitely some things I can do better. But more reps and time will tell.”
