SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys remain hopeful that their final two draft picks will reach deals Thursday, but neither Bruce Carter nor DeMarco Murray will be on the practice field anytime soon.
Carter, a second-round pick, is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last year at North Carolina, and while his rehab has progressed, he will open camp on the non-football injury list. Murray, however, could miss a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in workouts.
Murray, a third-round pick, is being looked upon as a big contributor to the offense and special teams this season, so the injury will set him back even more considering there were no mini-camp practices or organized team activities in the offseason because of the lockout.
In the afternoon practice, second-year safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah suffered from a cramp in his calf and had to leave practice early. It is not considered serious.
